We are looking for a market research analyst to help us with business and market research for our ongoing projects.
Our approach is multi-year investing with detailed work in the ecosystem where we try to understand our investments from the bottom up by meeting with companies, their competitors, suppliers, distributors, customers, regulators, substitutes, etc. Our strong belief is that this ecosystem can only be developed and maintained by being local. Accordingly, we are looking for a candidate to join us to help facilitate this work.
The job is largely self-directed and requires the ability to cover a variety of business models within Internet and Financial Services – e.g., eCommerce, digital payments, online gaming, social networks, asset and wealth management, insurance, and consumer lending. The candidate will be assigned company-specific and industry-level work, ranging from consumer surveys, expert interviews (including those sourced in-house), price tracking, and product comparisons. - Manage end-of-end projects starting from the design phase to making recommendations.
- Conduct primary and secondary research (both qualitative and quantitative), compile and analyze structured and unstructured data sets.
- Meeting/connecting with multiple stakeholders to understand the business/company in a better manner.
The successful candidate will be provided with an opportunity to become a business model expert with deep knowledge of the industries they cover. This role also provides a great deal of exposure to investment research and the investment process, to senior leadership at the firm, and the opportunity to collaborate with a uniquely global, collaborative team.
Job Requirements
- At least a Bachelor’s Degree
- 3-5 years of experience in market/business research or management consulting, preferably in a research capacity.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools.
- Fluency in Japanese (both verbal and written) in order to cover Japanese clientele.
- Superior communications skills, particularly in written communications.
- Keen interest in deep, fundamental business analysis.
- Self-motivated, with demonstrated achievements in previous academic and work experience.
- Ability to work both individually and collaboratively.
- Willingness to think critically, from first principles, and to change your mind based on evidence.
