Principal Data Scientist
Overview:
Our client is a well-established German chemicals company.
We're looking for a teammate excited to learn, conceptualize, build, and implement technologies that push the boundaries of how we use data to accelerate R&D in the company.
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversee rigorous statistical analyses as well as design and implement the latest machine learning/deep learning approaches that enhance our RDI’s data science capabilities
- Lead and contribute to the design and execution of the technical data science strategy to continuously improve and optimize the performance and stability of the platform. This includes but is not limited to data preparation, establishing pipelines, exploring new artificial intelligence technologies, and developing new computational approaches making use of machine learning, or cloud-based solutions to detect meaningful patterns and connections in diverse sources of R&D data. The goal is to leverage these data techniques to support R&D at speed and scale
- Hands-on role to combine Chemistry, Materials, Data Science, Machine Learning to organize, process, and learn from data, to abstract concepts from the data, test their validity and make predictions
- Collect, analyze, and communicate data insights from internal and external data sources carefully considering its reliability, interpretations, and findings. Draw authoritative conclusions and recommendations so that the significance of the data can be appreciated by a broad skill range
- Play a key role in driving detailed technical project objectives and execution management, architecture design and code reviews, and demonstrate technical leadership
- Technical expertise to promote synergies and increase value in technology development efforts, if existing, across different business lines, ranging from enhancing current technical capabilities of AIChemBuddy to investing in new areas of growth or invention, e.g., generating intellectual property to enhance organization’s competitive edge in AI-driven experimental work
- Maintain knowledge of company's total computing/digital/data/IT environment and planned changes in order to develop meaningful data science products at RDI
- Engage with global research, industry, and standards development communities to identify and implement new technologies and best practices
Job Competencies:
- Ph.D. Degree and 8+ years of academic / industry experience (e.g., in Computational Chemistry, Data Science, Cheminformatics, or related field with a computational emphasis). At least 3 years of experience directly applied to projects in the specialty chemicals or related sectors
- Data strategist with 5+ years’ work experience and lead larger initiatives in the data science field at principal level
- History of applied data mining, machine learning, or statistical modeling to solve business problem and delivered results
- Experience in machine learning/deep learning pipelines, data ingestion, feature engineering and selection, model training, validation and deploying large-scale machine learning/deep learning models in the cloud environment
- Strong understanding of chemistry concepts, multi-dimensional data and modern approaches to data integration and data processing workflows
- Ability to take on an international, global perspective to problem solving and innovative thinking
- Highly collaborative across all cultures and non-egoistic style of working
- Comfortable to deal with ambiguity; not afraid to take a risk & willing to learn from failure
