The Director role offers the opportunity to lead strategic research and innovation initiatives within the industrial biotechnology sector. This position plays a key part in shaping R&D priorities, overseeing funding programmes, and fostering collaboration across industry, academia, and public sector stakeholders while driving the commercialisation of research outcomes.
Responsibilities
Develop and execute the R&D roadmap in alignment with long-term strategic and economic objectives
Oversee fund administration activities, including the development of selection criteria, evaluation of scientific proposals, and monitoring of funded projects
Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, industry partners, and the research community to support collaborative innovation initiatives
Drive the commercialisation of research outputs through technology transfer, licensing activities, and the development of spin-off opportunities
Provide scientific and technical leadership when engaging with Principal Investigators, researchers, and industry stakeholders
Support the management of complex research and innovation portfolios to maximise impact and value creation
Requirements
Advanced degree in Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry, or a related field; PhD preferred
Minimum 10–15 years of leadership experience within the Industrial Biotechnology sector
Proven experience in R&D strategy, innovation management, or technology commercialisation at a regional or global level
Strong track record of working with stakeholders across research, industry, and public sector environments
Experience managing large-scale research grants or complex R&D portfolios is highly regarded
Excellent communication, stakeholder management, and relationship-building skills
